Battle the Seasonal Allergies with These Tips

Battle the Seasonal Allergies with These Tips

It's springtime once again! But instead of being excited with the prospect of summer or plenty of sunshine, you are beginning to feel worried. Around this time you tend to suffer from running nose, watery eyes, colds, and sometimes coughs. These things can definitely dampen any enthusiastic spirit.

Understanding Seasonal Allergies

What you're going through, though, is called a seasonal allergy. It is referred to as such since it occurs during specific times of the year only, usually during spring or fall. One of the leading causes of your allergic reactions is pollens. They are extremely small they can get into open body parts, such as your nose. They can also irritate your nasal passageways, so you're forced to cough them out or sneeze them. They can be sore to the eyes, causing redness and sometimes swelling.

Seasonal allergies are different from perennial allergies, which can occur at any time of the year. Besides pollens, the latter can be caused by pet dander and dust.

How to Cope with Seasonal Allergies

Don't allow the seasonal allergies to force you to cancel out plans. Here are some ways on how you can prevent them from happening:

Clean your home regularly. Make sure that you have a spic-and-span home. Focus on the windows, verandahs, and patios, sections of your home that are more exposed to pollens. Nevertheless, when you're cleaning, ensure that you are wearing proper gear. Don on a face mask or wear some gloves. This is to limit your pollen exposure.

Be mindful of the weather. Pollen exposure is much higher if the humidity is low and the wind is high. This is because the condition allows the pollen to be more airborne or present in the atmosphere. If this happens, it's best if you can just stay at home, closing your windows and doors.

Limit your activities. There are certain times when a lot of pollens are emitted into the air. Based on studies, it's between 5 and 10 in the morning. It's advisable if you can defer morning activities to a much later time. For example, if you're used to running in the morning, you may want to schedule it in the afternoon. Better yet, do it on a treadmill.

Increase your immunity. You are less likely going to suffer from seasonal allergies if you can keep your immune system in check. One of the best ways is to reduce your stress level. Stress can wreak havoc into your body. It can lead to hormonal imbalance, a very high level of cholesterol, and a compromised immune system.

Subliminal messages or affirmations may be utilized to help deal with stress. Every day, find a good place where you can relax or meditate. While you're at it, you can have affirmations played in the background. The positive phrases or words may focus on relaxation, like "I can feel the worries and fears drifting away from me," or on your health such as "Today I am going to keep myself healthy by eating right."
